Booking & Cancellation Policy, Terms & Conditions, FAQ’s

Booking

All classes must be paid for at the time of booking. Places cannot be secured until payment is made.

Cancellations

  • If you cancel more than 7 days before the class date, you will be offered a full refund or the chance to transfer your booking to an alternative class.
  • If you cancel within 1 to 7 days of the class date, you will not be eligible for a refund but your booking can be transferred to an alternative class.
  • If you cancel within 24 hours of the class, you will not be eligible for a refund but you can transfer your booking to an alternative class minus a 50% cancellation fee.

Winter weather cancellations

If you’re unable to attend due to bad weather, please don’t worry—your booking can be moved to another date that suits you. Just let me know as soon as you can by calling or texting 07472 325436.

If I ever need to cancel a class because of the weather, I’ll be in touch as soon as possible. You’ll have the choice of a full refund or the option to transfer your booking to another date.

Safety

Your safety is always a priority, and every effort will be made to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during class. Eye protection and aprons are provided for most workshops (please note that aprons are not provided for silver clay or the Simple Ring/Bangle classes).

By booking a class, you acknowledge that jewellery making and soldering involve the use of tools and equipment that carry some risk. You’ll be taking part at your own risk and are expected to behave in a safe, sensible, and respectful manner at all times.

To keep the space welcoming and enjoyable for everyone, anyone behaving in an unsafe or inappropriate way may be asked to leave the class.

Please note that Maggie Read Jewellery cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal belongings, or for any injury sustained during the class..

Disabled access

Classes are suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, and I’m always happy to make adjustments where I can. Some areas of the workshop are a little narrow and the bench heights are fixed, so please do get in touch before booking to chat through any specific needs.

One part of the class involves using a foot pedal, but don’t worry—I can assist if you’re unable to use it.

If you require disabled access, please let me know at the time of booking so I can make sure everything is clear and in place for your visit. There’s disabled parking available directly outside the workshop, and an accessible toilet is available in the centre.

Are there any age restrictions?

The minimum age requirement for classes is 13 and we ask that under 16’s are accompanied with a paying parent or guardian.

Can I bring some jewellery/gemstones/metal to incorporate into my jewellery?

Unfortunately this is unlikely to be possible but please feel free to contact me before the class to check.

What is included in the class price?

Please see individual class listings for full details, but in general, all materials, tools, and equipment are included in the cost of your workshop.

Tea, coffee, and water will be provided, along with delicious cake from our lovely Cornhill Village Shop. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, please let me know when booking and I’ll do my best to accommodate them.

Please note that for the Simple Ring and Simple Bangle classes, there won’t be a refreshment break due to the shorter class length—but water will be available throughout.

Lunch

If your class runs over lunch time, please bring a packed lunch with you, or if you’d prefer, the lovely Cornhill Village Shop is just nearby and offers a tasty selection of filled rolls, pastries, and quiches. You're very welcome to pop in before class starts and pick something up.

What should I wear?

Silversmithing can be a bit messy, so it’s best not to wear your best clothes to class. Choose something comfortable but fitted (nothing too loose, as it can be a fire hazard), and please avoid sandals or open-toe shoes.

If you wear glasses, don’t forget to bring them along. Long hair will need to be tied back for safety.

Aprons and safety glasses will all be provided to help keep you comfortable and protected while you work. (please note that aprons are not provided for silver clay or the Simple Ring/Bangle classes).

Where are you located?

The studio is located in the Cornhill on Tweed Centre, Cornhill on Tweed, Northumberland, TD12 4UE. Please enter via St Helens Gardens from the main road (map below). Parking is available in the centre grounds and the studio can be accessed through the main centre doors. The studio is located off of the main hall, second door on the left. If you need wheelchair access, please let me know in advance.
Please drive slowly through St Helens Gardens and into the centre car park as there may be children playing.

What time should I arrive for my class?

Please try to arrive 5 - 10 minutes before the start of your class so you have time to settle in. Please don’t arrive before this as I may still be setting up the studio. The class will start promptly so please try to be on time. If you are running late, please let me know on 07472 325436.

How long will the class last?

Class timings are listed on each product page, but please note these are approximate. The length of the session can vary slightly depending on the number of participants and individual skill levels.

If you need to leave by a certain time, just let me know at the start of the class and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Do you take private/group/special occasion bookings?

Yes, I do! Jewellery classes are a great activity for friends and family so if you would like to enquire about a private group booking, please fill in the contact form here.

All classes can accommodate up to 6 people. Prices are based on 6 people in a class.

Private class information including booking and cancellation policies can be found here.

If the class is for a special occasion, a cake can be arranged at no extra cost.

Mac the workshop dog.

Mac will usually be off playing with his friends at doggy day care during classes but there may be occasions where he will be in the studio. He is very friendly but if you are allergic/scared of dogs, please let me know at the time of booking.

Do you offer class gift vouchers?

E-Vouchers and postal vouchers are available here.

Vouchers must be used within 12 months of the purchase date (the class can take place after 12 months, as long as it is booked within 6 months). If there is a balance left on the gift card (postal vouchers only. This does not apply to e-vouchers) it can be used to purchase jewellery in the studio shop (on presentation of the voucher).
