Silver Clay Pendant Workshop - Tuesday 12th May (11am to approx. 3pm)
Description
Discover the magic of silver metal clay in this relaxed and friendly silver clay pendant workshop.
What is metal clay?
Metal clay looks and feels just like regular clay: it can be rolled, moulded, textured and cut. It’s made from fine particles of pure silver, combined with a non-toxic organic binder and water. Once it’s fired (either with a torch or in a kiln), the binder burns away, leaving behind solid, beautiful silver. Just like magic!
In this class, you’ll make a 3cm wide round pendant with an optional gemstone. There are class samples for you to look and a choice of the following pendant patterns to choose from:
- Moon gazing hare
- Hare in meadow
- Waves
- Swirly tree with flowers
- Lovebirds
- Hummingbird
- Highland coo
- Compass
- Bee
- Butterfly
- Forrest scene
- Celtic thistle
You'll learn how to roll, shape, texture, cut, embed gemstones, dry, refine, fire and polish your silver clay piece. You can then add a dark patina to bring out detail and give your piece that extra bit of character (as pictured).
Jewellery making classes are kept small, just six people, to make sure there’s plenty of one-to-one support and time for questions.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your very own finished pendant, ready to wear or gift to someone special.
Silver clay is an exciting technique to learn, especially if you'd like to continue creating from home. It uses minimal tools, making it perfect for beginners and home crafters alike.
If you are interested in learning from home, I have an online silver clay course which you can find here: https://maggiereadjewellery.co.uk/pages/online-silver-clay-courses
Who is it for?
This jewellery making class is perfect for complete beginners—no previous experience is needed. The minimum age is 13, and anyone under 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who’s also taking part in the class. Exceptions can sometimes be made for younger children – please get in touch with me to discuss before booking the class.
How long is the class?
The class lasts approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, including a lunch break.
Please bring along a packed lunch. Or, if you’d prefer something freshly made, the Cornhill Village Shop offers delicious filled rolls, pastries and quiches—it’s a great little spot to visit before the class begins.
Please note that class times are approximate and may run slightly over or finish a little earlier, depending on the group.
What’s included?
• Tea, coffee, water & muffins (from our fabulous local shop!)
• All tools and equipment
• 7g of silver clay
• Sterling silver jump ring
• 1 gemstone setting
• 1 silver chain (16", 18" and 20" chains are generally available).
If you have any dietary needs or allergies, just let me know when booking and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
