Discover the magic of silver metal clay in this relaxed, beginner friendly silver clay jewellery workshop.
What is metal clay?
Metal clay looks and feels just like regular clay - it can be rolled, moulded, textured and cut, but it’s made from fine particles of pure silver, combined with a non-toxic organic binder and water. Once it’s fired (either with a torch or in a kiln), the binder burns away, leaving behind solid, beautiful silver. Just like magic!
In this class, you’ll learn how to roll, shape, texture, cut, embed gemstones, dry, refine, fire and polish your silver clay pieces. You can also add a patina to bring out detail and give your piece that extra bit of character. There are class samples for you to look at for inspiration or you’re welcome to bring along your own ideas. While it’s not always possible to make your designs exactly, I’ll do my best to help you get as close to your vision as we can on the day!

You’ll get 10g of silver clay to create whatever you like, whether that’s earrings, charms or a pendant. As a guide, 10g is usually enough to make a medium-sized pendant and a matching pair of earrings with enough clay left over to make a couple of small charms. You’ll also get 3 gemstones, silver jump rings and 1 pair of sterling silver ear wires. A small selection of chains are available to purchase along with extra gemstones and ear wires.
Classes are kept small and friendly at just five people ensuring that you'll have plenty of one-to-one support and time for questions.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your very own finished pieces—ready to wear or gift to someone special.
Silver clay is an exciting technique to learn, especially if you'd like to continue creating from home. It uses minimal tools, making it perfect for beginners and home crafters alike.

How long is the class?
The class lasts approximately 5 hours, including a lunch break.
Please bring along a packed lunch, or if you’d prefer something freshly made, the Cornhill Village Shop offers delicious filled rolls, pastries and quiches. Please make sure you visit before the class as the break can be quite short.
Please note that class times are approximate and may run over or finish a earlier, depending on the group.

Absolutely not! All classes are suitable for complete beginners and even if you're "not crafty", don't worry, you'll get plenty of one to one guidance in the class!
- Please do not wear sandals or open toe shoes. If you do, you will not be able to take part in some parts of the class.
- No loose clothing
- Long hair must be tied back
- If you wear reading glasses, please bring them with you.
- Aprons are provided for silversmithing classes, but it’s still best not to wear your finest outfit as jewellery making can be a bit grubby!
- For silver clay classes, aprons aren’t needed (or provided) as things tend to stay a little cleaner but I still recommend wearing something comfy and practical, just in case.
The minimum age for classes is 13, and anyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who’s also taking part in the class.
Exceptions can sometimes be made for younger children – please get in touch with me to discuss before booking the class.

Plenty of free parking is available onsite.
- The workshop is accessible to wheelchair users. If you need wheelchair access, please let me know at the time of booking so I can make sure this is clear.
- Disabled parking is available directly outside the workshop.
- Classes are suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility but please contact me to discuss before the class as some areas of the workshop are narrow and the height of the jewellery benches cannot be altered. Part of the class involves using a foot pedal but I can help if you are unable to use one.
- An accessible toilet is available in the centre.
- Making jewellery is a physical craft and silversmithing classes involve hammering and bending metal which does take some strength. If you have arthritis in your hands or wrists, you may struggle but don't worry, I'm happy to step in and help if needed. Silver clay classes are not so physical and may be a better option.

Jewellery classes are a lovely way to celebrate with friends or family. Private group bookings are available for up to 5 people for silver smithing classes and 6 people for silver clay classes. If it’s a special occasion, a cake can be arranged at no extra cost.
